Empowering Parents
John introduced a bill to provide parents with greater transparency regarding their children's education by ensuring access to curriculum materials and standards. Addressing the Teacher Shortage Dan championed multiple bills to recruit and retain quality teachers, including one that would create a pathway for high-performing paraprofessionals to obtain teacher licensure. Protecting Girls' Sports Dan introduced a bill to safeguard the integrity of women's sports by requiring student athletes to participate on teams corresponding to their biological sex. This measure ensures fair competition and upholds opportunities for female athletes to excel in their respective sports. Tackling Truancy In response to the increased truancy rates exacerbated by the pandemic, Dan sponsored multiple bills to address this pressing issue. Empowering Parents It’s no secret that the past two years have been challenging for our kids, parents, and schools. Dan knows that every parent needs to have a voice in their child’s education. That’s why he passed legislation that empowers parents with more information about what is being taught in school, and expanded education options for families. Dan will continue to push for policies that put our kids first. Supporting Our Schools Making sure students and teachers have the resources they need is critical to a successful education. That’s why Dan voted to increase funding for public schools in the last budget, putting more money directly into the classroom. Career Training Opportunities Expanding access to Youth Apprenticeship programs gives students the chance to go to school and work part time with local employers, giving them valuable on the job training. Dan will continue to support initiatives that give our future leaders the skills necessary to succeed in the workforce. Higher Education When it comes to higher education, Dan supported the UW tuition freeze which has been in place for almost six years. Keeping college affordable for Wisconsin students and families helps create a strong and qualified workforce across the state. |
